Gandin Brothers, Inc. was established in 1912 by Louis Gandin, and Italian immigrant who was later joined in the 1920's by his brother, Tony. Tony operated the business until his death in 1969; brothers Allen and Butch (Tony's sons) became the leaders with Allen retiring as President in 1992. Butch, along with his son Tom, a third generation member, currently manage the company.

Gandin Brothers strive to maintain their place in the ever-changing granite industry by upgrading equipment and renovations, while maintaining their priorities of providing personalized attention and the highest quality product to each of its customers.

Joseph B. Calcagni, his wife, Mary Jean Calcagni, and their son, Joseph V. Granite Importers, Inc., is Barre's leading architectural stone manufacturer. The company specializes in granite, marble, brownstone and limestone, cubic and curved work as well as sculpture. The company provides complete job management from stone selection, acquisition, engineering, drafting, manufacturing, and finally to site delivery. A diverse granite manufacturing company, this BGA-member firm produces a wide range of memorial products and building granite and is owned by Jeff Martell and Forrest Rouelle. Sales Manager Paul Bagalio heads up a sales force which includes Rick Lacroix, Bob Winney, George Kries, Diane Clark, Becky Spooner, Nancy St. John, Jeff Martell and Forrest Rouelle. The Office Manager/Bookkeeper is Elizabeth Bean.

The range of memorial products goes from veterans markers to multi-crypt mausoleums. GIV has complete in-house drafting capability to assist the retailer to include rendering, full scale design and setting. Setting on large scale projects is done in conjunction with Granite Corporation (Joe Calcagni).

Granite Industries of Vermont is directed toward providing the monument retailer with a quality product, good service and competitive pricing. Key personnel in production and sales are highly experienced people who provide personalized customer service. While GIV produces only the finest in granite memorialization products, this firm has also provided the granite for the AT&T building in New York City and fabricated the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

Ed Carbonneau established Hillside Saw Plant, Inc. in 1954 to provide quality custom wire sawing services to local granite manufacturers. Today, with the help of his son, Randy Carbonneau, plant manager, and daughter, Sarah Somerville, corporate secretary, more than half of Hillside's business is in the production of granite building products. These building products include the firm's line of custom CarbonCraft (counters, table tops, and other nonmonumental granite products).

More recently, the firm changed its corporate name to Hillside Stone Products, Inc. and also purchased the stone-working equipment of Grearson & Lane Company. Hillside's product line now includes columns, spheres and other turned products.

Joe's Custom Polishing & Manufacturing is named after Jerry's dad, Joe Perreault who started the company in 1971. Jerry purchased the company from his dad in 1979. Joe still works around the plant along with Jerry several days a week. The polishing portion of the company accounts for 10 percent of the total business. The manufacturing of monuments is the company's mainstay.

The 4,200-square foot plant and accompanying 8,400-square foot warehouse, house three diamond saws, three polishers, one planer, two full time employees and a lot of hard work.

Jerry talks directly to his customers and personally handles the layout and oversees every order. While Jerry also tends to the bookkeeping, his wife Gala, is his trucker. She makes the deliveries and picks up stone in and around Barre.

Norm & Maggie Fournier operate Kinfolk Memorials in a renovated horse barn located on their 200-year-old family farm. Kinfolk Memorials consists of a 65,000-square foot facility. Maggie serves as boxer, polisher and trucker. Tad Cochran , a cutter is their sole employee. Norm handles everything that's left.

Kinfolk Memorials houses a diamond saw, a polisher and a hand polisher. Splitting of slabs is done by hand.

Product quality, hard work, dedication and pride are what this BGA member bases their success on. Each week they produce about 80 pieces.
